I’ve Been Lying To Myself
My whole life actually…
You see, from a young age I’ve been praised for my potential… what I could be if only I made the “right“ moves.
But what good is potential if it’s never used? And if it’s never proved, what is it even there to begin with?
Am I Alone On This?
Recently I’ve gotten WAY too caught up with romanticizing my potential.
I tell myself, more times than I count, that I’m meant for more… I’m destined for greatness, that I will achieve all my goals.
But when the time comes to act on it, to make the necessary changes… my potential evaporates into nothing more than an illusion.
My habits consistently reflect otherwise.
My mouth says one thing but my actions say another. And you can’t have a GREAT life with AVERAGE discipline… it just doesn’t work.
Potential Is Addictive
What’s so dangerous about potential is that you get to feel proud about someone you haven’t become yet.
Not only is it one of the most well crafted and comforting excuses, but when you get dopamine from the belief that you are great rather than the work itself… bad things happen.
It’s when you catch yourself saying “I could’ve…” that you must immediately stop and reflect.
Because you didn’t. Could’ve, would’ve, should’ve… reality says otherwise.
So What’s The Remedy?
Discipline.
As simple as that.
And I know… it’s so incredibly easy to type and infinitely harder to actually implement.
But nothing good, nothing truly worthwhile, will ever come easy. And the sooner you embrace, that your potential is only real once proven, is the sooner you start prioritising discipline over comfort.
Because maybe we were never meant to admire the “potential“ within us. Maybe it’s a debt. You owe it to yourself.
So today, after reading this, will you start paying back that debt or continuing to add on interest?
The life you want is waiting for you…
